US Deputy Secretary of State Nuland urgently went to New Delhi to try to convince the Indian authorities to change their attitude towards Russia and completely terminate all defense contracts with Moscow:

“Of course, we know that Russia and India have had good relations for a long time — in particular, in the defense sphere. At that time, the United States was simply not ready to build such a relationship with India.

Times, however, have changed, and now the United States and Europe are really ready to become reliable partners of India in the field of defense and security.

Therefore, at a meeting with Indian colleagues, we talked about how India can continue to receive Soviet-era weapons, but not from Russia.

Together with our allies and partners around the world, we continue to supply Ukraine with Soviet-era weapons, and we could do the same for India
